YPS AND SMALL BUSINESS CHAMBER AFTERHOURS 

 

Your Professionals of Savannah Serving the Business Community

 

SBC.jpgYPS and Savannah Small Business Chamber are joinging forces for their monthly afterhours. This will give you a unique opportunity to network with the members of two of Savannah's most visible professional organizations.

Join us Thursday, August 26th at Rocks on The Roof from 6:00pm until 8:00pm for what will be the first of many great events with YPS and Savannah Small Business Chamber.

There will be light appetizers and 1/2 off select beer (Bud Light, Miller Lite and Yeungling) and 1/2 off house liquor.

MEMBER ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

YPS JumpStart Program:

We are launching the YPS quarterly mentoring program with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Coastal Empire (B&GC) to bring professional development to children the ages between 14-18 for them to gain exposure to the real world and empower them to complete high school and pursue higher education.  The program's vision is to help socio-economically challenged children pursue higher education and become active professionals in the Greater Savannah Community. 

Up to 15 YPS members will be on the review panel to judge 15-20 finalists in the YPS-B&GC Essay Contest "What do I want to be when I grow up?"  The YPS review panel will meet at the Boys & Girls Club, 510 E. Charlton Street, Savannah, GA 31401 on Monday September 20th, 2010 from 6-8:00 P.M. to select the finalists as well as their mentee and vote on the grand prize winner.

On Tuesday, September 28th, 2010, the YPS review panel and the essay finalists will meet at the Boys & Girls Club at 6:00 P.M. for shuttles to the YPS-B&GC tour of Savannah Morning News at 6:30 P.M. on 1375 Chatham Parkway, Savannah, GA 31405.  The tour features the newspaper industry, the history of the press, and the various professions involved to run the local publication.  The grand prize winner's essay will be announced after the tour and his/her essay featured in the Savannah Morning News. 

There is limited space for 15 YPS members to participate in the tour with the B&GC, participation in the YPS review panel is mandatory to attend the YPS-B&GC tour of Savannah Morning News.  To volunteer for this program, please email vicepresident@ypsav.net for more information or come to the YPS Board meeting on September 13th, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. at the B&GC.

Title

Description

Assistant Sponsorship Coordinator           

 Responsible for procuring and developing annual sponsorships for website and after hours.

Online Media Manager   

Responsible for maintaining online copy for website, social media forums, and email distribution of eNewsletter and/or announcements.  

Photographer   

Performs photographic duties in fulfillment of YPS requests for visual representations of events, artifacts, commercial photography or various other assignments as requested.

Secretary      

Documents each YPS Board Meeting and Submits Meeting Minutes to YPS Board and well as provides general administrative support.

Philanthropy Director

Responsible for serving as the liaison with the Boys and Girls Club of the Coastal Empire to coordinate logistics for mentoring activities and promotion of program through YPS communication channels; serves as point of contact for all YPS charity related activities and volunteering opportunities within the Savannah Community.

Ambassador

Responsible for serving as the spokesperson and a personalized point of introduction to all new YPS members and guests at each event.

Committees:

YPS Anniversary Party Committee:  We are looking for volunteers to help us run the YPS Anniversary Party on Friday October 29th, 2010.  Event volunteers are offered discounted event tickets of $25 in exchange for (1) hour of volunteer time, 15 volunteers needed and offered on a first come first serve basis for the following roles: Greeting team, check-in table, raffle ticket sales, and silent auction sales.  Two person shifts are from 5:30-6:30 P.M., 6:30-7:30 P.M., and 7:30-8:30 P.M.  Email Ryan Kirwan to volunteer at rkirwan@sandgnats.com.

YPS Events Committee: We are looking for volunteers to help us run the YPS After Hours on a monthly basis.  Responsibilities include running the sign-in table, greeting members and guests, and coordinating networking activities. Email Chasity Stodghill, Events Coordinator at events@ypsav.net to volunteer.

YPS Ambassadors Committee:  We are looking for volunteers to help us meet and greet new members and potential members at each event, to be the primary point of introduction for new and/or potential members.  Email Deborah Dickson at vicepresident@ypsav.net to volunteer.

YPS JumpStart Committee: We are looking for volunteers to join and run this quarterly mentoring and professional development program for high school teenagers at the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Coastal Empire.  To participate in the launch and join the committee, email Deborah Dickson at vicepresident@ypsav.net and see her September 13th, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. at the B&GC.

 

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SERIES

YPS is excited to announce the next lecture in the Professional Devleopment Series. The event will be held on Tuesday, September 14th at Ruth's Chris on Bay Street from 6:00pm - 8:00pm.

The lecture will be on the new world of financial planning. We will be rbinging you the best and the brightest in the fiancial planning community. Ashleigh Womack from Womack & Company, Adam Lee from Edward Jones and Barbarba Bart from Merrill Lynch will offer real solutions to help you get fically fit in the current financial climate.

Seating is limited so email pds@ypsav.net to reserve your spot. The cost of the event is $5.00 and will include appetizers. A cash bar will be available.
